This concept proposal drawing for an unlimited Monte Carlo bodied Class 6 for Eagle Racing LTD was hand drawn in 1/10th scale and had 4 total D size sheets.
In the hand drawing days before CAD, these 1/10 scale proposal drawings would allow me to get a relatively thorough spatial layout of the complete vehicle.
As conceptual drawings they also provided a great vehicle template which we could use to discuss the pros and cons of the various technology paths and methods proposed.
This 1/10th scale hand drawing was done by setting up full size body skins in the yard and then drawing a 6" grid all over the body, measuring the cross-hair coordinates, and transfering them to 2D drawings. I'm an engineer not an artist!
This mid/front engine Class 6 chassis layout, which is over 30 years old, could almost still pass as a new design today, with the exception of a few details!
One of these telling details is the use of multiple off-the-shelf shocks. In those days we didn't have much access to custom off-road shock sizes. We would often build take-apart shocks from stock units so that we could then at least change the valving. Good times!!
